Charles Hu is a figure painter and notable art instructor, and has been an anatomy and figure drawing instructor in Los Angeles for over a decade. In this class, you will learn how to see and interpret visual information as it relates to the human form.
This class will emphasize the development of perceptual skills through drawing the human figure from direct observation. Drawing the figure is one of the fastest and most rewarding ways to acquire the foundational skills needed for all aspects of artistic communication.
Class time will be devoted to hands-on drawing projects, as well as lectures and demonstrations. The following topics, methods, strategies and subjects will be covered: gesture, shape, structure, movement, weight, volume, space and expression through line, mark, and value.
You will benefit from Charles’ generous teaching style as he provides informative lectures and beautiful demonstrations. In-person participants will be working alongside Charles from live models. Charles’ work will be recorded live, as well as broadcast to large displays so you can follow along no matter where you're positioned in the studio.
Online Full Access participants can upload photos of their weekly work into the class chatroom and get a full critique from Charles, where he will trace over your drawings and provide individualized feedback. You can watch the recordings on your own time, and you do not have to participate in the critiques if you don't want to.
The class recording will be available for your viewing every Tuesday at 7:00pm PST. You will receive online access to the recording of the lecture portion for one year or six months depending on your purchase plan. This is helpful to reinforce the principles of each week, and to catch any concepts you may have missed the first time around.
