Mark Westermoe is a renowned artist, illustrator, and instructor. You can see his work on many feature film posters such as Braveheart, Total Recall, and Home Alone. In this class, Mark will share his knowledge from years of illustrating and working with the top advertising houses in Hollywood.
In this class, you will go through the process of transforming film concepts into movie posters, starting with concept design and moving on to a finished comprehensive sketch. You will learn different styles of movie posters, how to stage and build a movie poster, how to create likeness, and how to really sell the idea.
Full Access Participants will be working alongside Mark from weekly rotating models. Mark’s work will be recorded live, as well as broadcast to large displays so you can follow along no matter where you're positioned in the studio. The recordings from each class will be published within 48 hours of class ending so that you can review all material including material you may have missed. Participants will benefit from Mark’s generous teaching style with one-on-one critiques of your classwork.
Participants attending the class with the Online Streaming Only pass will also get access to the full video recordings from class as well as critiques. Online participants will work from high quality model photos that will be provided on the class page each week. You can upload photos of your weekly work into the class chatroom and get a full critique from Mark during the following week's class. You can watch the recordings on your own time, and you do not have to participate in the critiques if you don't want to.
All students will receive online access to the class recording and reference images for one year. This is helpful to reinforce the principles of each week, and to catch any concepts you may have missed the first time around.

Mark Westermoe is one of the giants of figure drawing in Southern California. Along with his stunning drawings, paintings, and illustrations, he is also a world-class instructor. After graduating from Stanford, Mark returned to L.A. and began studying with his mentor, the great Fred Fixler, who was a student of legendary teacher Frank Reilly. Mark quickly became Fixler’s top student and protege. After Fixler’s death, Mark continued in the tradition of his mentor; handing down the knowledge of the Reilly Method to his students. Mark’s professional illustration career rose to prominence when he worked for some of the top advertising houses in Hollywood, including BLT Communications and Seiniger Advertising. You can see his work on many feature film posters such as Braveheart, Total Recall, and Home Alone. Along with his film and figurative work, Mark founded Associates in Art in Sherman Oaks, California, which became one of the top private art schools in the country. Many world-class artists and illustrators taught at Associates along with Mark, and many students and alumni became a “who’s who” of figurative art. Great artists such as Kevin Chen, Sergio Sanchez, and Paul Wee are just a few of Mark’s outstanding former students. Mark has revived his love and passion for drawing, painting, and teaching. Mark continues to master figurative art, and teach privately in Claremont, California.
