Steve Huston’s works are poetic, poignant, and masterfully powerful. He has been an extraordinarily effective mentor whose instruction and guidance have produced an impressive number of accomplished acolytes.
This workshop will focus on the influence of the skeleton in drawing the whole figure, with special emphasis on the joints, hands, and feet. Thinking of the skeleton as the framework that supports the figure will bring solidity and stability to your drawings.
By taking this anatomical approach, students will learn the orientation of the limbs, how to approximate the internal skeleton of the figure, and how to overlay muscles and skin to produce a finished, thought-out figure drawing.
Full Access Participants will be working alongside Steve from live models. Steve’s work will be recorded live, as well as broadcast to large displays so you can follow along no matter where you're positioned in the studio. The recordings from each class will be published within 48 hours of class ending so that you can review all material, including material you may have missed. Participants will benefit from Steve’s generous teaching style with one-on-one critiques of your classwork.
Participants attending the class with the Online Streaming Only pass will stream the workshop LIVE in real time wherever they are in the world! You will also get access to the edited versions of the full video recordings from class as well as critiques. Online participants will work from high quality model photos that will be provided on the class page each day. You can upload photos of your work into the class chatroom and get a full critique from Steve. You can watch the stream live in real time, or the edited recordings on your own time, and you do not have to participate in the critiques if you don't want to.
All students will receive online access to the class recording and reference images for one year. This is helpful to reinforce the principles of each day, and to catch any concepts you may have missed the first time around.
In-person students also have the opportunity to join Steve and the Art Mentors team for a social dinner immediately following the last day of the workshop! This is a great opportunity to mingle with like-minded people and celebrate a successful end to a great workshop.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Q.Is this workshop online or in-person?
A.Both! There are two options. The Full Access Pass gets you a seat at the in-person class in Huntington Beach, California for the three day event, plus you get access to the workshop page with full video recordings of the workshop, reference images for practice, and a community chat. The Online Streaming Pass gets you access to the live stream of the workshop as well as the recording, the reference images to work from, and the community chat where you can upload your work for critiques.
-
Q.If I choose the Online Only Pass can I still get one-on-one critiques from Steve?
A.Yes! We will provide high-quality reference images of our models through the workshop page. You can draw at home, snap a picture of your work (or work digitally), and then upload it through our workshop chat room. Steve will critique your drawings when he critiques the Full Access Pass students, but for you he will draw over your drawing using an iPad Pro. You will have access to these critiques for a full year to review as many times as you like.
-
Q.I can't watch the stream live. Can I still take this workshop?
A.Of course! Because of scheduling conflicts, many students can’t participate in the workshop live with the Online Streaming Only Pass. This is no problem at all. You can watch the full recording of the workshop at your leisure any time after the event on the web page for a full year.
-
Q.Is this workshop good for beginners or just advanced artists?
A.This class is intended for artists of all levels. Professional artists will learn new ways to approach their craft. Beginning artists will learn solid foundations and good habits from day one, which is a great thing!
-
Q.I live in California. Should I attend in person with the Full Access Pass or with the Online Streaming Only Pass?
A.Students attending in person will get the most out of this class, including face-to-face feedback and critique with Steve. You’ll also have the benefits of meeting other dedicated students and professionals, working from live models rather than photographs, and attending our workshop dinner on the third evening! Since you still get access to the workshop page and full recording, you’re getting the best possible experience.
-
Q.$599 is a lot for me to pay at once. Are there payment plans?
