Joshua Jacobo is a Californian fine artist and the founder and Executive Director of New Masters Academy.
Intermediate Figure Drawing is designed to pick up where beginning figure drawing courses end. Students should be able to lay in figures with gesture, constructed forms, and reasonable proportions and anatomy and define the light and shadow sides of the drawing.
In this class we begin to consider the figure not as a mannequinized formula wherein each body part is represented with a reliable formula, but each pose as a unique opportunity for artistic expression.
Joshua will introduce his "abstract sculpture" approach to figure drawing where the artist first analyzes the pose, then diagrams several three-dimensional sculptural ideas and finally chooses a design and uses the life model to inform their conceptual work rather than simply copying the model.
This class in intended to get students out of their comfort zone and working with the figure in new and challenging ways. It is designed around a series of specific exercises that students will be asked to complete for review by the instructor. You will be provided with beautiful high-resolution Draw This!™ reference images of world-class models to work from.
Note: This is a interactive and hands-on class. Do not enroll in this class if you are looking for general time in front of the model to practice figure drawing skills.
