Richard Morris is a representational painter and draftsman who has been teaching in the Southern California area for over twelve years.
This class is an exploration into the various methodologies and concepts necessary to make a long-term observational figure drawing. Comparative measurement will be taught as a means to achieve accuracy of proportion.
Methods of structural drawing/construction will be utilized to create a strong foundation of form and volume. Gesture will be emphasized as a method to maintain life and energy and as a tool to unify the figure drawing into a cohesive whole.
Anatomy will be analyzed in order to create a more convincing depiction of the figure.
This class will utilize a tonal approach in the application of the previous concepts. Emphasis will be placed upon the convincing depiction of light on form using principles of light logic and the concepts of shape, value, and edge. The overall arrangement and design of light/dark patterns will be explored as a means to compose a drawing. Emphasis will be placed upon creating a sense of space in which the figure exists.
This class is IN-PERSON ONLY at our studio in Huntington Beach, CA. There will be no video recordings of this class to purchase online. You can attend all 8 weeks of this class for $399.
