Richard Morris is a representational painter and draftsman who has been teaching in the Southern California area for over twelve years.
This class is an exploration of the fundamental principles used in drawing portraits. Structural concepts such as planes and construction will be emphasized, in addition to the techniques of tonal drawing.
Analysis and breakdown of the individual features will be an integral part of the class, with special emphasis being placed upon their relation to the whole. Observation of shapes and the identification of the unique character of each model will be taught as a means of capturing a likeness.
Learning outcomes for this course include: developing a thorough understanding of the structure and anatomy of the facial features, drawing the effects of light and shadow utilizing the principles of light logic, and understanding how to manipulate edges in order to create a naturalistic depiction of the model and his/her relationship to the surrounding environment.
You will benefit from Richard's generous teaching style as he provides informative lectures and beautiful demonstrations. Richard will spend much of class working one-on-one with students, allowing you to get the most out of the material you have learned.
This class is IN-PERSON ONLY at our studio in Huntington Beach, CA. There will be no video recordings of this class to purchase online. You can attend all 8 weeks of this class for $399.
