An online workshop with Steve Huston

For years, master artist Steve Huston has been asked how he creates his beautiful sketchbooks. In this 3-day online workshop, Steve will share his secrets to sketchbook techniques. He will teach you how to blend two very distinct processes into one great way to do studies – or for that matter, finishes.

Covering landscape and figure, Steve will show why watercolor is such a great tool for planning out a tonal or color composition, why it’s ideal for creating what he refers to as “happy accidents” that can lead into personal directions that virtually none of the other realists out there are doing, and how it can help you effectively make that difficult transition from competent draughtsman to first class painter.

This Recorded Workshop Features:

  • 16+ hours of instructional video
  • 100+ reference images to download
  • Access to the student chatroom
  • Online access to this class for 12 months

NOTE: Students will have access to all the workshop recordings for 12 months and may download all reference images to keep. But since this workshop is recorded, students will not be able to submit work for critique from the instructor.

Product Description

In The Artist’s Sketchbook, Steve will put in time using pen and ink, and brush and ink. Together, you will explore ideas for future paint strokes, see how it will develop your eye for the precise way to track and/or reinvent form on paper or canvas, and see how you can sneak a little color and flare into these time-honored tools.

As Steve demonstrates and lectures, you will be invited to practice along, learning how to begin and finish both quick sketches and more complete renderings.

In this online workshop, Steve hopes to bring you something that goes beyond the typical “Art 101” lesson scheme that’s offered by most institutions. Here’s a chance to explore two wonderful mediums that, when used with creativity, have a chance to both revolutionize and personalize your work.

This workshop is online only. Full Access participants will receive high-resolution reference images to work from, the ability to submit your work for Steve to critique live, and access to the recordings for one year.
