Charles Hu is a figurative artist and notable art instructor with over a decade's experience teaching figure, anatomy, and head drawing. This class will emphasize the development of perceptual skills through drawing the human figure from direct observation.
Drawing the figure is one of the fastest and most rewarding ways to acquire the foundational skills needed for all aspects of artistic communication. Class time will be devoted to hands-on drawing projects, as well as lectures and demonstrations. The following topics, methods, strategies and subjects will be covered: gesture, shape, structure, movement, weight, volume, space and expression through line, mark, and value.
You will benefit from Charles’ generous teaching style as he provides informative lectures and beautiful demonstrations. Charles will spend much of class working one-on-one with students, allowing you to get the most out of the material you have learned. You will be provided with beautiful high-resolution Draw This!™ reference images of world-class models to work from.
This class is IN-PERSON ONLY at our studio in Huntington Beach, CA. There will be no video recordings of this class to purchase online. You can attend all 8 weeks of this class for $399.

Charles Hu is a figure painter and notable art instructor, and has been an anatomy and figure drawing instructor in Los Angeles for over a decade. In 2007, he co-founded his own fine art school, 3Kicks Fine Art Studio in Pasadena, California, and has influenced and instructed countless students and artists. Charles received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. He began his instructional career at L.A. Academy of Figurative Arts. His commissions include numerous portrait paintings, character designs for film and game pitches, murals and comic books for the movie End of the Spear. His work has been exhibited at Wendt Gallery in Laguna Beach California. Charles currently instructs at Art Center College of Design and Gnomon School of Visual Effects in Hollywood.
Sales are non-refundable, but in some cases we can switch a student’s enrollment in a class that has not yet started to another class of equal or lesser value. Art Mentors reserves the right to cancel, limit enrollment, substitute instructors or models, reschedule or modify a class with notice to enrolled students. If a class is canceled, enrolled students will be given a refund. If an instructor is unable to finish a class term, a refund will be given to students at a pro-rated amount.
