Joshua Jacobo is the founder of New Masters Academy, a professional artist and an art educator.
Joshua is a leading artistic anatomist and has produced medical and artistic anatomical models, including the New Masters Academy anatomy head series, the Jacobo Écorché Figure, and other world-class anatomical resources.
Figurative Anatomy is a one-of-a-kind learning experience that utilizing cutting-edge technology and unique learning resources such as the Eliot Goldfinger Human Cadaver Casting Library, the world's only full set of labeled artist reference castings of actual human cadavers, dozens of museum quality castings of human skulls and skeletons, plaster casts, and a modular digital anatomical model created by Joshua. Joshua will also be leveraging 3D Medical Imaging software to show the layers of anatomy in actual living specimens via a large flat screen display.
Each week Joshua will lecture for students on a region of the human figure–excluding the head, hands, and feet (which Joshua will cover in another upcoming anatomy class)–including the skeleton, muscular origins and insertions, the in vivo muscles with an emphasis on form, characteristics and function. Joshua will explain how the fat, glands, connective tissues and other subcutaneous structures contribute to the surface forms that we see on the human figure. After the anatomy lecture in which students are highly recommended to take notes, students will draw from the museum quality three-dimensional references that have been prepared each week and Joshua will guide and critique students as they draw with a layered anatomical approach.
Students will also receive PDF files with study guides featuring diagrams, images, and other resources to use for reference, and to keep when the class is over. Students will also be assigned homework where they will be working from high-quality images provided by DrawThis.com doing anatomy "draw-over" exercises where the student must visualize the anatomical forms beneath the surface of the figure.
This class is designed for 2D and 3D artists with some basic drawing skills and familiarity with the human figure, whether they work traditionally or digitally.
This class is IN-PERSON ONLY at our studio in Huntington Beach, CA. There will be no video recordings of this class to purchase online. You can attend all 8 sessions of this class for $399.

Joshua Jacobo is a Californian fine artist, educator, activist, anatomist, writer, and entrepreneur. Joshua draws and sculpts, focusing primarily on the figure, portrait, and animals.
Joshua’s work is influenced by the High Renaissance masters, as well as the Mannerists, Dutch and Northern European Masters, and some Golden Age illustrators. Recently Joshua has begun more intensive studies of the works of Bauhaus and abstract expressionist artists.
Joshua is an anatomist, creating one of the most accurate three-dimensional sculptures of the anatomy of the human head and neck ever developed and is currently developing a full standing anatomy figure sculpture to be sold as a reference product for artists and medical professionals.
Joshua had his first one-person show featuring thirty drawings in Midland Texas in 2012, only one year after beginning his full-time study of art. In 2012 Joshua also founded the online art school, New Masters Academy as an effort to bring top-level professional art instruction to artists around the world at an affordable price. Today New Masters Academy has thousands of students and is followed by millions on social media. Joshua and New Masters Academy were prominently featured in the popular Penguin book, “The Automatic Customer” by John Warrilow.
Joshua was involved in the original “Occupy Wallstreet” political movement in New York in 2012 where he demonstrated and raised funds for supplies for the Zuccotti Park camp and reported on the police response for NationofChange. Joshua went on to organize with other political movements including End Dark Money, Strike Debt, End Koch Power, Black Lives Matter, and most recently Joshua spent time at the Oceti Sakowin camp at Standing Rock, North Dakota for the resistance against the seizure of native lands by the oil industry. In 2013 Joshua led a campaign that raised $500,000 worth of distressed debt from students and poor American families and abolished it outright.
Today, Joshua manages several companies, in the art, education, and tech spaces and retains his board seat at NationofChange. Joshua is currently developing new artist pipelines for his large-scale sculptural work and teaches drawing for Art Mentors in Orange County California.
