In this intense, 3-day online workshop from master artist Steve Huston, you will learn how to use the skeleton and underlying structures of the human anatomy to inform your figure drawing, with a special emphasis on the joints, hands, and feet.

You will learn how bones come to the surface, how muscles group together, how they create shape, and, as the figure articulates, how they change shape. Thinking of these underlying structures as the framework that supports the figure will bring solidity and stability to your drawings.

This Recorded Workshop Features:

19+ hours of instructional video

140+ reference images to download

Access to the student chatroom

Online access to this class for 12 months

NOTE: Students will have access to all the workshop recordings for 12 months and may download all reference images to keep. But since this workshop is recorded, students will not be able to submit work for critique from the instructor.

Steve Huston’s works are poetic, poignant, and masterfully powerful. He has been an extraordinarily effective mentor whose instruction and guidance have produced an impressive number of accomplished acolytes.

In this workshop, students will learn the orientation of the limbs, how to approximate the internal skeleton of the figure, and how to overlay muscles and skin to produce a finished, thought-out figure drawing.

Students will work from high quality model photos that will be provided on the class pages. You can watch the recordings on your own time and at your own pace.

All students will receive online access to the workshop recording and reference images for 12 months. This is helpful to reinforce the principles of each week, and to catch any concepts you may have missed the first time around.

For years, master artist Steve Huston has been asked how he creates his beautiful sketchbooks. In this 3-day online workshop, Steve will share his secrets to sketchbook techniques. He will teach you how to blend two very distinct processes into one great way to do studies – or for that matter, finishes.

Covering landscape and figure, Steve will show why watercolor is such a great tool for planning out a tonal or color composition, why it’s ideal for creating what he refers to as "happy accidents" that can lead into personal directions that virtually none of the other realists out there are doing, and how it can help you effectively make that difficult transition from competent draughtsman to first class painter.

This Recorded Workshop Features:

16+ hours of instructional video

In The Artist’s Sketchbook, Steve will put in time using pen and ink, and brush and ink. Together, you will explore ideas for future paint strokes, see how it will develop your eye for the precise way to track and/or reinvent form on paper or canvas, and see how you can sneak a little color and flare into these time-honored tools.

As Steve demonstrates and lectures, you will be invited to practice along, learning how to begin and finish both quick sketches and more complete renderings.

In this online workshop, Steve hopes to bring you something that goes beyond the typical “Art 101” lesson scheme that’s offered by most institutions. Here’s a chance to explore two wonderful mediums that, when used with creativity, have a chance to both revolutionize and personalize your work.

This workshop is online only. Full Access participants will receive high-resolution reference images to work from, the ability to submit your work for Steve to critique live, and access to the recordings for one year.

Learn head painting utilizing the Reilly Method in this 10-week online class from Mark Westermoe.

Often, the success or failure of a head painting is determined by the quality and thoughtfulness of its earliest stages. With this in mind, you will be instructed in the basic techniques for head studies from scratch, while you start with the fundamentals and build up.

You will begin with underpaintings and work in monochrome. Then, a limited color palate will be introduced. Once you can construct a good lay in, you will move on to complete paintings.

Mark Westermoe was a renowned artist, illustrator, and instructor. Mark’s class is the closest you can get to learning the Reilly Method from Frank Reilly himself. In this class, Mark will share his knowledge of the Reilly Method and how students can use it to create beautiful head paintings.

In this class, Mark will use oil, acrylic, and gouache as a medium for the demonstrations, sometimes in combination. You will learn that, even with these different types of paint, the same principles apply. The importance of organizing edges, shapes, and values will be stressed, no matter what the medium is.

He will lecture, analyze master artists, and demonstrate his concepts. You will also have access to valuable recordings of Glenn critiquing student assignments.

You will learn new perspectives about drawing that can be applied to any subject matter.

After years of requests, the recording of this workshop is finally being made available! You will leave this workshop with a new set of skills that will improve your current work as well as your entire art career.

Drawing from imagination or memory is a critical part of the creative process of the artist going back thousands of years. The Old Masters would develop their compositions first from imagination and only later, if ever, would they bring in models to help them work out their ideas.

Today, drawing from imagination is not only applicable to fine art, but also to concept, visual development, animation, illustration, comics and more. Unfortunately this is a skill that is diminishing today, and many artists are under the mistaken impression that drawing from imagination is only for the most advanced artists. In reality, the artist should be drawing from imagination as well as from reference throughout their entire career.
