In this workshop, students will learn the orientation of the limbs, how to approximate the internal skeleton of the figure, and how to overlay muscles and skin to produce a finished, thought-out figure drawing.

Students will work from high quality model photos that will be provided on the class pages. You can watch the recordings on your own time and at your own pace.

All students will receive online access to the workshop recording and reference images for 12 months. This is helpful to reinforce the principles of each week, and to catch any concepts you may have missed the first time around.

As an online participant, you will work from high-resolution photos that will be provided on the class page each week. Unlike in traditional classes, the online format allows you to work at your own pace. You can pause and rewind as much as you want, giving you the ability to absorb information at a speed that you set for yourself.

As Steve demonstrates and lectures, you will be invited to practice along, learning how to begin and finish both quick sketches and more complete renderings.

In this online workshop, Steve hopes to bring you something that goes beyond the typical “Art 101” lesson scheme that’s offered by most institutions. Here’s a chance to explore two wonderful mediums that, when used with creativity, have a chance to both revolutionize and personalize your work.

This workshop is online only. Full Access participants will receive high-resolution reference images to work from, the ability to submit your work for Steve to critique live, and access to the recordings for one year.

In this class, Mark will use oil, acrylic, and gouache as a medium for the demonstrations, sometimes in combination. You will learn that, even with these different types of paint, the same principles apply. The importance of organizing edges, shapes, and values will be stressed, no matter what the medium is.

In Costumed Figure Drawing and Characterization you will explore the topics of the quick sketch, dynamic and subtle action, weighting, rhythm, stress and folds, designing shapes, and the impact of drawing techniques as they relate to drawing the costumed figure.

You will analyze master drawings through history, and Bill will demonstrate how we can use these concepts to improve the clarity of our costumed figure drawings’ feeling and expressions.

Drawing from imagination or memory is a critical part of the creative process of the artist going back thousands of years. The Old Masters would develop their compositions first from imagination and only later, if ever, would they bring in models to help them work out their ideas.

Today, drawing from imagination is not only applicable to fine art, but also to concept, visual development, animation, illustration, comics and more. Unfortunately this is a skill that is diminishing today, and many artists are under the mistaken impression that drawing from imagination is only for the most advanced artists. In reality, the artist should be drawing from imagination as well as from reference throughout their entire career.
