Figure Drawing: Construction and Rendering 3 Day Workshop

Figure Drawing: Construction and Rendering is an upcoming 5-day online workshop with Steve Huston that will stream August 22 – 26. Students may either watch and participate live or simply watch the recorded workshop after the live event for up to one year.

In this 5-day workshop Steve will show you how to construct the human figure including structure and gesture and some anatomy. You will learn what the major landmarks of the body are and how to simplify and conceive the different parts of the body including:

The Neck
The Shoulder Girdle
The Rib Cage
The Pelvis
The Arms
The Legs
Hands and Feet

On the last 2 days Steve will also show you how to use the laws of light and work with anatomical issues during his rendering lecture.

The workshop will begin each day at 10:00am – 5:00pm (PT) with an hour break for lunch.

Supply List-

Sketchbook to take notes.
Writing instrument to take notes.

Several charcoal pencils- Black or earth tone in color.
Carb-Othello or General, etc.

12” 18” drawing pad or larger
Choose a paper surface that is fairly smooth so that you don’t have to fight the texture when you add your tones:
Newsprint or
Bond
Marker paper
Or whatever your preference is

Drawing board store bought or cut wood to back paper and
two art clips to hold paper. This can be used if you don’t have a drafting style table to work from. Just set the drawing board against the edge of any table with the bottom resting across your lap. I usually do just this even though I have several drawing tables.

A matt or X-acto knife to sharpen pencils.

An art store sand pad or just plain old sand paper to sharpen pencils.

Strathmore Bristol regular, Series 400, 2 ply or better
Black Alpha Color
Conte’ stick – 2B black
Kneaded eraser
Hard eraser- (not pink, it will stain the paper
If you have it you can use an electric eraser as well.
A small stump.
