This 8-week class with professional artist and art instructor Donald Phan, will cover introductory figure drawing both as an art form and as a method of study that can be applied to other professional creative fields such as Entertainment Arts.
You will learn how to analyze the figure in terms of design theory, shape language, appeal, rhythm, and flow. You will learn an emphasis on solid construction and how to develop good drawing habits to reinforce abstract elements to create more impactful and meaningful drawings.
Students will learn to analyze some of the more abstract art ideas such as design theory, shape language, appeal, rhythm, and flow. Donald will be doing live demonstrations as well as individual students critiques to help you develop the analytical tools necessary for you to be more self-reliant in your artistic study. You will be working from both photo reference and the live model, with homework assignments designed to determine what went wrong during the live model sessions and to use your figure drawings as starting points for personal art projects.

Donald Phan is a freelance 3d Character Artist working in the video game industry. He has worked for companies like EA Mythic, ArenaNet, and Blizzard Entertainment, and contributed to titles like Guild Wars 2, Dota 2, and most recently, Overwatch. While a 3d modeler by trade, he has a strong passion for drawing and painting, and a firm believer that studying foundational skills is applicable to all areas of art.
Sales are non-refundable, but in some cases we can switch a student’s enrollment in a class that has not yet started to another class of equal or lesser value. Art Mentors reserves the right to cancel, limit enrollment, substitute instructors or models, reschedule or modify a class with notice to enrolled students. If a class is canceled, enrolled students will be given a refund. If an instructor is unable to finish a class term, a refund will be given to students at a pro-rated amount.
